The Library’s principal literary holdings are: the Amelia B. Edwards Collection, which contains correspondence, personal papers and water-colours of Amelia B. Edwards (1831-92), novelist, journalist, travel writer and Egyptologist (616 items); the Vernon Lee MSS, consisting of incoming correspondence of the writer Vernon Lee (Violet Paget, 1856-1935; 2,723 items); the Percy Withers Collection, containing incoming correspondence of Withers, with associated papers, books and pictures, including letters from A.E. Housman, Lascelles Abercrombie, Wilfrid Gibson, Robin Flower and Walter de la Mare; the Margaret Kennedy MSS, consisting of correspondence and papers of the novelist Margaret Kennedy (Lady Davies, 1896-1967); the Margaret Mann Phillips MSS, consisting of correspondence and papers of Margaret Mann Phillips (1906-87), Erasmus scholar and writer; and the Vera Brittain Collection, consisting of papers relating to Vera Brittain (1893-1970) bequeathed by her literary executor Paul Berry.
